Spoken Word Poetry

If you're not yet familiar with spoken-word poetry, you're in for an exciting ride. Taken from the ancient tradition of oral storytelling, spoken-word poetry combines the beauty of poetry with the dynamics of the speaker's presentation. Last summer I had the opportunity to hear an extremely creative and talented spoken-word poet, Caleb Rainey, who performed several times at the Okoboji Writers' Retreat. Caleb performs as the Negro Poet. His website, HOME | The Negro Artist, contains a feature video which I strongly encourage you to listen to. Although I won't be in the vicinity of Iowa City this weekend, if you are, you can see Caleb perform at UNESCO Slam-O-Vision, 6:30pm-8:30pm at Public Space One - Close House in Iowa City, IA
