Remembering Okoboji

Clouds make shadows on the lake,

A mirror to the blue-sky rippling

Against the shore. At evening

The deer creeps in from the field

Slowly approaching the water’s edge.

Shepherding the fawn, alert to danger,

She keeps close watch, relaxing

Once all are satiated and bedded

Down for the night.
